PEDRO SILVA x HARMIN

We caught up with PEDRO SILVA, the Brazilian-born, Bowery-residing artist with whom we’ve created an exceptional, limited collaboration featuring hand-painted “Spell Art” — one of the artist’s ongoing series that examines the relationships between self, society, meditation, and language — on a few select HARMIN styles. This collaboration, which also includes beautiful, sustainably-made furniture by Stefan Martin x Pedro Silva, came about in a very old New York City way, serendipitously, through our dear friends at Selima Optique, where pieces are available for purchase —at both the NYC and Paris boutiques — and we will be releasing one at a time on harminstyle.com.

Where did you grow up?
Florianopolis, Brazil

Where do you live now?
Bowery, Manhattan

When did you first become interested in art?
As a kid

And how long have you been making it for?
I started painting with oil at 13 and never stopped.

How would you describe your art?
Very personal. A journey to learn more about who I really am. I’ve explored many different styles and techniques to finally find Spell Art, a combination of meditation and manifestation with the use of words in the form of painting.

What inspires your work?
A combination of internal feelings, my muses, and New York.

Can you tell us more about “Spell Art”?
The Spell Art started as a tool to help me with my personal challenges. I could talk a lot about it, but it’s better to watch the short film I made about it on Youtube.

How did you meet Selima?
I met Selima through mutual friends. A true New York story, part of the downtown art community.

How did the Harmin collaboration come about? Which is your favorite piece?
I also met Barbara through Selima, and we connected very well. The idea was to bring my gratitude for being part of this community to the bags. And my favorite piece from the collaboration is ON THE GO.

What was your favorite aspect of the collaboration?
My favorite moments were the meetings, the photoshoot, and dancing in the studio with Barbara.

What does luxury mean to you?
To have time and grace. A few simple things full of love care—quality over quantity.

How would you describe your personal style?
Simple with a twist. A combination of sport and posh with a touch of goth.

If you had to choose one HARMIN style, which would it be and why? Of course, mine, the black leather CURBSIDE

What’s your favorite thing in the Bond07 Selima Store (other than our lovely collaboration ; ))
The spell art I made on the walls and the Peter Selima Brown Tortoise shades.

What are you working on now? What’s next?
I’m working on the million-dollar painting and a music video.

How do you like to begin your days, and how to like to close them out?
Drinking hot water and feeling the steam on my nose, better with the sun if he is there. Having a nice dinner with wine and friends and maybe sex.

A perfect New York Day for you includes…
Sun and friends and a nice outfit.

Anything else you’d like to share?
“I love myself, “ even if it’s very hard.
